Grim Gauntlet Demo [ 1 JAM ]
My first ever game jam. Didn't go as smoothly as I wanted it to, learned a lot about coding and asset making. This is an unfinished test version of the game, which I will release in the near future, probably without the 1 bit limitations since its difficult to make visually coherent in a detailed style.
There's definitely more to this game's story than I portray in this more or less art reel demo, but for now it's just a walking simulator with some light combat.
Everything in this game was made by me, with some assistance from the GB STUDIO discord.
Controls:
Z = Attack
X = Jump
Arrow Keys = Move

I see that you already made a colored version of this one. I'm a programmer. If you want to team up in a future jam, DM me on discord! (kessel_nebula)
The game style is concise and very good, Its a fun experience :)
Hey thanks so much for playing!
Graphics on point, I would love to see this limited 1-bit style continued, but! I also would like colors even more! There's an atmosphere that encourages exploration, and I was frustrated when I couldn't see more of the ruins (if they are in fact ruins?). Looking forward to more on this, because I can feel the lore just lurking around!
Yeah unfortunately I scope creeped way too much, and was hand making the maps in a drawing program rather than using a mapping program. The second map for the game I made first, and its pretty obvious compared to the intro map with the forest, which I made with TILED, which really helped my workflow and sped it up. I'll be releasing a fuller-ish demo within a month or two! Thanks for playing.
I have enjoyed this experience very much! I played it on my mobile device. Both the music and the atmosphere was riveting! I hope you continue to develop this game :3
Can't wait to see what else is in store!
